@ Adam,

When I bought my laptop from Dell, it "just worked" when I turned it on.
Does this mean that My Dell laptop is sd good as your mac?

Hmmm seems I need to get Episode 4 out to continue this conversation as we spent a long time talking about backing up and what happens when you don't :)

This is very true - Microsoft has made great bounds with their new PowerShell but it still isn't a patch on a proper *nix terminal. Although I will say on my Mac, I rarely use the command line as the UI is so comprehensive that I only need it for those 'ultra-nerd moments'. But it is very nice to have the option :) At least that's one thing Matt can't disagree about!

Thanks to my course, I spent a lot of time on my computers and like them to 'just work' and Macs tend to do this, apart from when the hard discs break of course...

Haha I like the mac vs. pc argument at the end.

Biggest reason to buy a mac:

It is a great laptop that in general "just works" while at the same time because it's based on unix also has the flexibility of all the unix CLI power and being able to use unix based tools and open source projects.

If I was on Windows I'd have to use Cgywin or something to get the same flexibility and power.

That's my reason anyway...

Thanks for that clarification, I suspected that the A4 followed ARM principles which are of a RISC architecture I believe? Do you know what sort of CPU is in the current iPhone?

The A4 is actually based upon ARM architecture. Also the iPhone OS is already pretty damn well designed to fit the CPU. I think the point you are missing is that ARM don't make the CPUs, they license the designs, so with Apples semi-conductor acquisition they will be in a position to make their own CPUs based upon ARM designs.
